RHBC - New Team Training Guide

Fundamentals FIRST and ALWAYS

PASSING . DRIBBLING . SHOOTING

As a new player, these are the basics that should be focused on. You can never pracice these skills enough.

Run drills that focus on the FUNDAMENTALS.

The drills can focus on 1 of these aspects or combine 2 or 3 of the fundamentals.

Keep training SIMPLE and FUN

Be Organised - Spend 10 minutes priior to training and have a plan of what you are going to do

Be Flexible - If a drill is too hard or the kids are losing interest, move on to your next planned drill

Be Positive - Domestic basketball is an entry level to the sport, be positive and have fun

Be Patient - Kids learning curves are all different. Stick to the fundamentals and improvement will come in time

Basketball is a team game, make sure everyone is getting to be an equal part of your team.

There will be plenty of time to "run plays" when your child reaches Rep or State basketball. Concentrate on the fundamentals and teach spacing and effort and good sportsmanship.

Learning to READ and REACT will teach great team play and give plenty of opportunity to learn spacing and structure.

If you need to ideas for drills, the internet is loaded with ideas, remember to keep them simple and fun.

If you need anything, RHBC committee is always here to help.

Thanks for being part of a great Club.
